Burn Clean, Burn Safe: How to Enjoy Your Candles the Right Way!
There’s nothing quite like the warm glow and soothing scent of a candle to set the mood in your space. But did you know that how you burn your candle can make all the difference? Whether you’re a candle connoisseur or just getting started, knowing how to burn clean and burn safe will ensure you get the most out of every flicker.
Why Clean Burning Matters
Not all candles are created equal. Some contain paraffin wax, which can release toxins and soot into the air. That’s why we use 100% plant-based wax—a blend of soy, coconut, and apricot—to ensure a clean, non-toxic burn that’s better for you and the environment. Our candles are also made with natural cotton wicks and toxin-free fragrance oils, free from phthalates, parabens, and other nasties. Translation? You can breathe easy while enjoying your favorite scents.
Tips for a Clean and Safe Burn
1. Trim Your Wick – Every. Single. Time.
A long wick equals a big flame, and a big flame means excess soot and uneven burning. Before each use, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch to keep your candle burning clean and steady.
2. Let It Melt to the Edge
When you light a candle, let it burn until the wax melts evenly across the surface—especially on the first burn. This prevents tunneling (that annoying hole in the middle) and ensures an even, long-lasting candle.
3. Don’t Burn Too Long
We know it’s tempting to keep your candle going all day, but burning for more than four hours can overheat the vessel and cause issues. Our candles are crafted to reach a full melt pool before that, so enjoy them in shorter sessions.
4. Keep It Away from Drafts
Windy areas like open windows or fans can cause an uneven burn and excessive flickering. Place your candle in a stable, draft-free spot to keep the flame steady.
5. Use a Snuffer (or the Lid!) to Extinguish
Blowing out a candle can create smoke and spread soot. Instead, use a candle snuffer or gently place the lid on top to put out the flame without the mess.
Safety First, Always!
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
- Burn candles on a heat-resistant surface.
- Stop using your candle when only 1/2 inch of wax remains to prevent overheating.
Light Up with Confidence
A well-made, properly burned candle isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about creating a cozy, safe, and toxin-free environment. When you choose clean-burning, non-toxic candles, you choose better air quality, a longer-lasting experience, and a little extra peace of mind.
So light your candle, sit back, and enjoy the moment—clean, safe, and stress-free!
