Just Us Again
Share
Our weekends are usually quiet.
Sometimes we're both in the same room for hours without saying very much.
Bo is usually tinkering with another computer, happily figuring out how to make something work just a little better.
I'm nearby with my laptop, writing for Leveiza, answering emails, or picking up my crochet project for a little while.
It probably doesn't look like much from the outside.
But to us, it feels like one of life's greatest gifts.
We've discovered that being together doesn't always require doing the same thing.
Sometimes it's enough just to share the same space.
There was a time when weekends looked very different.
Bo was busy providing for our family.
I was home raising five children.
Life was full.
Busy.
Wonderful.
But there wasn't always much time that belonged to just the two of us.
Now our children have families of their own.
We're Lolo and Lola.
Our weekends still include family whenever we can, and we treasure every moment with them.
But we've also found something unexpected.
We've found each other again.
In this season of life, we're quietly catching up on the years that were devoted to raising our family.
There are no big adventures.
No elaborate plans.
Just coffee.
Conversation.
Comfortable silence.
The simple joy of knowing the person beside you so well that words aren't always necessary.
As we grow older, I've come to appreciate those quiet weekends more than I ever imagined.
I can't imagine this season of life without him.
It reminds me that love changes over the years.
It becomes quieter.
Steadier.
Less about excitement and more about presence.
Less about grand gestures and more about simply choosing each other, day after day.
Looking back, I'm grateful for the years we spent raising our family.
Looking around, I'm grateful for the years we're spending rediscovering one another.
Perhaps this is one of the unexpected gifts of growing older.
After all the years of caring for everyone else...
We finally have a little more time to simply be together.
